Red. With Groundhog Day Sunshine | Vancouver Portrait Photographer

Red.

Red.

Today was Groundhog Day.  There was sunshine in Vancouver, so I think there was a shadow to see.

I kinda wish today could repeat itself so I could work with Mehnaz again and repeat this session, but it was so awesome that it was too good to have to repeat!  (Am I getting that Bill Murray movie confused? … Probably.)

Anyway.  LOVED today’s session.  More to come.

(And yes, there were bad jokes and such to laugh at… proof of the laugh.  You need to book a session to hear the bad jokes!)

Laugh.

My niece Norah | Saskatchewan Portrait Photography

Norah-1_Imaging by Marlis

This portrait session has an extra layer of awesomeness.  Yes, that is possible.

My “little” brother (and when I say little I mean younger) and his wife welcomed Norah into this world in early November, and the next 7 weeks were a countdown until I got home to Saskatchewan to meet her.  And then photograph her!!!

I traveled “light” this trip (and when I say light I mean in gear, not in presents and other things in my suitcase) so it was a fun challenge to use what equipment I had with me and what was available.  Norah’s home-turned-temporary-studio worked well and I’m excited to post a few of the images!

make.believe.for real… with Sabrina

Sabrina-088-E

It’s so exciting that make.believe. for real, Sabrina’s website went live today!  I had a preview of Sabrina’s session a while ago (click here) and I have more now.

I’ve had the privilege of working a bit with Sabrina this fall, and it brought a drive to push my creativity to a new level… I have so many ideas for the new year!

And you should check out the website!  makebelieveforreal.com is “inspiration for the vocation-minded”.  Don’t forget to sign up for the newsletter.

Back to the photos! It was a great session – a beautiful Saturday in Gastown.  There were lots of laughs, collaborating, and even a bit of a catwalk… oooooo and great coffee/tea/hot chocolate at the new Milano on Powell St. (love it in there!).

Vancouver Peace Choir Concert | Vancouver Event Photography

VPC November 20, 2011

Yesterday I was surrounded by the beautiful sounds of the Vancouver Peace Choir at St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Kitsilano, photographing their rehearsal and the performance.  This concert was the last in their ‘in remembrance’ series.  The space was wonderful for light and sound.

Character Portrait – Shane from Sterling Solutions | Vancouver Portrait Photography

Sterling 4

I had the pleasure of meeting Shane of Sterling Marketing & Design Solutions earlier this year.  Shane is a young entrepreneur like myself, and his business is all about helping other businesses be better at what they do.

We met at Vancouver’s Granville Island since we wanted to have a lot of variety in a small area.  First, Shane rocked the Business Man look.

Sterling 5Sterling 6Sterling 4This is one of my favourite images… that wall is awesome!

Then we switched it up to a Vancouver-in-autumn casual-yet-professional look.

Character Portrait – oo la la | Vancouver Portrait Photography

Sabrina in Gastown - square

I just LOVE this portrait so much that I’m sharing it before the rest of the blog post is ready (I can share the black+white version then!).

It was a sunny Saturday in mid-October and I met up with Sabrina and Daniel for a Character Portrait session in Gastown.  Here’s one of the ‘early-in-the-session’ portraits.  oo la la!

Family Portrait for a Special 70th Birthday! | Vancouver Portrait Photography

B-Family 1

This fall, I was privileged to be a part of a 70th birthday celebration!  The family had gathered from all over the world and wanted to create a family portrait from the special occasion.

I met them at their house in Vancouver, overlooking the city.  Some interesting weather had us both inside and outside, so I was able to capture them in both settings.

I love the colour and smiles of this day!

Lenore & Brett visit Saskatoon | Saskatchewan Portrait Photography

LB - Portrait 10 MFunk

I was so excited when Lenore emailed to say that she and her husband Brett would drive from Edmonton to meet me in Saskatoon for a portrait session this past June.  Lenore had entered my L-O-V-E contest back in February, and wanted to use the extra special bonus she got for entering.

Lenore and I go waaaaay back to high school days, where we were co-editors of the yearbook.  I was the photo-editor and Lenore was “everything else” editor… more or less.  ;)  We were given nicknames by our staff advisor, Mr. Marsh – “Marlis the red” and “Lenore the Lucky” – though I’m not sure why.

Anyway.  It was GREAT to see Lenore after many years, and to meet her husband Brett.  They are obviously awesome together – two people with the same sense of humour who love to laugh.  A LOT.  They were both game to play for the camera, put up with the on-again-off-again rain and were kind when I swallowed a bug.

We started out in the “field of random sculptures” (that’s what I call it) at the University of Saskatchewan.

Katherine & Benoit – Summer-Deck-Party Reception | Vancouver Wedding Photography

KB-Wedding 31

Oh, I love deck parties in summer… the sunshine, the flowers, the decorations, the umbrellas for your drinks… all of it.  Ben & Katherine’s Wedding Reception was just that… a party to celebrate with their family and friends.
